Barcelona V Alaves

As the La Liga season gets ready to kick off, Barcelona look to defend their crown with an opening day win. With 9 wins in 10 against Alaves, Barcelona come into this one feeling pretty damn good about their summer transfer business so far and their chances of retaining the title.

Barcelona News

Barca have done some good work in the summer, not least with the introduction of Brazilian duo Arthur and Malcolm. Arthur should offer great creative quality in midfield, while Malcom provides another fresh attacking option in the wide areas.

Generally, though, Barcelona will be looking to start this without any disruption. With Andres Iniesta now gone, it’ll be interesting to see how Barcelona funnel their attacks, with their playmaker for the best part of a decade leaving.

Alaves News

Alaves have had a pretty decent summer, and should come into this one feeling pretty good about the season to come. Not much to report on for this match in terms of style, though: Alaves will look to keep it tight, play on the break and hope that John Guidetti up top can ruffle some feathers and maintain some possession further upfield.

Prediction

A win for Barcelona – and a good win at that. Barcelona look ready to really make good on their need to win something big this year, and we could see them putting Alaves to the sword. With new captain Lionel Messi desperate to win titles as Barca captain, expect him to shine from day one.
