Once seen as among the hottest striking properties in world football, Andre Silva appeared lost to the game. The FC Porto wonderkid had made a rather confusing move to a newly-moneyed AC Milan. While he scored with regularity in the UEFA Europa League, his league tally – and appearance ratio – was poor at best.
Now, the young star has made a well-recommended move to the city of Seville. Playing with Sevilla, the youngster is enjoying a resurgence that is hard to fathom. Looking even better than he did at his best with Porto, the young forward looks every bit the precocious striking superstar that he was when he first broke onto the scene in Portugal.
Sitting pretty at the top of the table courtesy to his weekend winning goal, his impressive 8 goals so far in La Liga makes up around one third of his clubs tally. A brace against Real Madrid will always turn heads, of course, but for Silva it’s his all-round game that has returned.
While he’s been outscored by Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Christian Stuani so far, it’s easy to see why Silva is so rated: he’s among the most impressive forwards in the league for his overall play. Given he looked so lost in Milan, his turnaround in such a short space of time has been wonderful to see.
For many, his return to prominence with Sevilla underlines his misuse in Italy, as he proves with every passing week that he is a player worth dedicating minutes to.
