This weekend, league champions Real Madrid will take on Real Sociedad in what is always a high-intensity game. Following back-to-back league draws, Madrid will be looking to improve on what has been a lethargic start to the season. Meanwhile, Sociedad sit second and enjoyed a dominating win in Europe during the week; they host Madrid knowing they are in the kind of form that might just win them the match.
Having not been in this good a run for some time, Sociedad will want to take their winning run from 4 to 5 and really cement their position as a potential challenger this year. Effervescent going forward and solid at the back, the likes of Elustondo, Illarramendi and Willian Jose have started the season incredibly well. Even old veteran Xabi Prieto is back in his finest form.
For Madrid, their season is yet to truly kick off. While Marco Asensio and Casemiro have kicked it up a notch this year, the odd performance dibs from the likes of Luka Modric and Isco is causing significant issues for Los Blancos.
We expect this one to be a high-intensity match, with two of Spain’s most aesthetically pleasing sides going head-to-head.
However, 10 away wins on the spin for Madrid means that they can arrive here still knowing they the means to ram the result home. A performance isn’t needed, but a result is; any kind of win for the away side would be well-received at one of the most draining away games of the season.
We expect the away side to come away with the three points here; but only just. Sociedad have scored 14 goals but it’s hard to outscore arguably the best team on the planet. We expect Madrid to maintain their immaculate away form at their Basque opponents.
